For Children & Youth
Classes are from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and are available for all ages. Classes for adults include a parents class and an adult Bible study class.”. It's never too soon for your child to learn about God and his promises—or for you!
The school is held one week during the summer during the evening. All children are welcome to come and learn about Jesus and what his love means for them. Classes are offered for children age three through sixth grade.
Do you remember the church songs you learned as a child? Help create that experience for your child as well. We have three youth choirs. Cherub Choir, ages 3-5 ; Joyful Voices, ages 6-9 ; and Good Spirit Singers, ages 10-15 . Rehearsals are Wednesday evening; check church calendar for times.
Cub Scouting is a way for boys from 1st – 5th grade to begin their road in scouting. The pack is comprised of two dens and meets three times a month for various games, projects, and overall fun. The highlight of the year is the week-long summer day camp at the Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation near Strausstown. For more information, please visit our web site.
We have quite a cast of characters (puppets, that is) just waiting for you to lend a hand. For both youth and adults this ministry performs programs that promote good manners and values. Group performs in the community as well as for church programs.
Calvary opens it doors for the local Girl Scout organization to hold its meetings the first and third Thursdays of the month from Sept. to May.
Young people in 7 th grade or older are invited to study the basics of the Christian faith (Baptism, Holy Communion, The Ten Commandments, The Lord's Prayer, and The Apostles' Creed) over a two-year period. Mentors meet periodically with youth during the Sunday School hour. Youth celebrate the rite of Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) in the spring of their second year, usually on Pentecost.
A two-part course in February is offered to youth in 4 th grade and higher to educate them in the meaning of Holy Communion to become prepared to receive the sacrament.
This ministry is for newly-baptized infants in our church, ending with their third birthday. Parents receive monthly mailings offering suggestions on raising their child in a Christ-centered home as well as helpful advice on parenting.
Two youth groups are available to youth for fellowship and fun, Christian learning and service. The Junior Youth Group for 3rd -6 th graders meets once a month, often on the third Sunday, to eat and play games together at church or off site like a bowling alley or skating rink. We hold one overnight at the church for this group each year in April. The Senior Youth Group meets less frequently but plans a youth service in November and does service projects and enjoys sports outings.
For youth grades fifth through twelfth. Acolytes perform several duties during the worship that assist in conducting the service. Training is scheduled as needed.
Activities for Adults
Periodically, the pastor conducts adult Bible study groups to help people grow in their faith and understanding of God's word.
A new open group has begun meeting Tuesday nights once every 2 months or so. Books to be read are advertised in the newsletter, and everyone is invited to come and discuss the book topic for a 1 ½ hour session.
We offer two adult classes. There are also opportunities to teach or assist in teaching a class. One is a parents' support group and the other a Bible study group.
Calvary has an adult hand bell choir and the Senior Choir, a vocal group for singers in eighth grade and above. Both rehearse on Thursday evenings. Lift up your voice and join in as we praise God though music.
Male vocal ensemble
This group is focused on the oral interpretation and dramatic presentation of literature designed to bring the word of God to life and reinforce Christian values. Group meets monthly with some additional rehearsals prior to performances.
This is Calvary's organization of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, an official auxiliary of the whole church. Each year the women plan a variety of activities, including social and service to the church and community.
Known as the 3-D group; this is a Christ-centered sharing program. The topics for discussion and prayer are diet, personal disciplines, and the meaning of being a disciple of Christ. The group meets Thursday afternoons at 1:30 p.m.
Prayer needs is communicated among the group by a “chain” of members each person phoning the next person on the list. Personal information does not need to be shared. Merely the name of the person for whom you would like the group to pray is sufficient.
Prayer shawls are created to surround the recipient in prayers that can be both seen and felt. The recipients are wrapped in the warm and loving prayers of a shawl to receive God's love in a touchable way throughout surgery, recovery, grieving and challenging times in their life.
The local senior citizen group meets at Calvary on the third Friday of the month. This lively group enjoys getting together for fun, fellowship and special programs.
